San Rocco, Sentiero del Viandante

We will walk along the “Viandante,” a scenic path used over the centuries to connect Milan to Switzerland.

The route offers splendid views of Lake Como, passing through picturesque villages, ancient courtyards and ruins, small mountain churches, terraces with vineyards and olive trees. Well-deserved stops will allow us to contemplate and photograph these breathtaking landscapes.

Program of the day

From Dorio we reach Mandonico, a nucleus of rustic houses made of local stone where time seems to stand still. The trail now becomes spectacular and the mule track quickly gains altitude to the chapel of San Rocco (484 m), in an extraordinarily panoramic position. At altitude we will pass above the small lake of Piona, on the slopes of Monte Sparese (566 m) and then on a dirt road downhill to the village of Posallo (420 m). From here we cross the Perlino stream and then to take the path that climbs steeply to a small church, also called the church of San Rocco (15th century) and descend to Colico, where we will take the train back to Dorio.

What to bring for the hike

Hiking shoes or hiking boots, water, packed lunch, optional trekking poles, rain and wind protection.

NB: Several water fountains will be found along the trail where you can fill your water bottle
