A walk through villages in the heart of the Brianza of yesteryear
A light walk, discovering small villages between Lake Annone and Mount Brianza. Hidden hamlets, farmsteads, churches, barns, small corners of beauty to admire and photograph.
Simple rural architecture, the patient work of the farmers, but also elements of ‘arte povera’ in a stunningly restored farmhouse.
It will be the details that catch our eye: the corn cobs drying under the beams and arches of buildings, old-fashioned ‘gerli’ hanging on the wall, the herb garden just outside the front door, the farmyard animals: a snapshot of that beautiful world we have left behind, and which still survives in small oases that seem to resist modernity.
PROGRAMME:
We start out from the municipality of Ello, where we are welcomed by a crib set up inside a wash-house. We cross the narrow cobbled streets of the old village, and a path takes us to the hamlets of Molere and Trescano, small hamlets that are still rural. Here we come to the monumental Cascina Ghisolfa, which was a Longobard outpost in history; further on, nature surprises us with the charming Cogoredo lake and sacred architecture gives us the splendid 12th century Church of Sant’Alessandro Martire. We now reach Cascina Panizzera where we can also purchase genuine products: Honey, Eggs, Vegetables, Jams.
Our journey will end at the place I love most:‘La Fura’, a farmhouse inhabited by our friend Giuditta and family, furnished with simplicity and taste, an oasis of art and beauty. There, a nice fire, a warm herbal tea and an old-fashioned snack awaits us : bread, butter, honey and jam! Just a few more steps into the forest and our adventure is over, here we are back at the starting point.
Bring walking shoes, we will be walking on trails and may find some mud.
