When I first reached Alpe Prabello, the word ‘idyllic’ magically became reality. The architecture of the huts, the pastures, the light, the peaks. Everything was incredibly harmonious.
Out of the world, far away in space and time, let the Heidi in us go free for a weekend in the wilderness!
Day One
We walk (or snow… snowshoe!) along an easy trail from Lake Campo Moro toAlpe Prabello. High and angular, the pyramid of Pizzo Scalino (3,323 m) looms over the Piana di Campagneda while, further away, it is easy to make out the silhouette of Monte Disgrazia (3,678 m).
Should the snow be particularly heavy, we could start from Franscia, lengthening our route a little.
We reach the beautiful plateau of the Prabello alp, surrounded by alpine pastures, and stop at the Rifugio Cristina, our cosy and intimate home for the night. We settle in, warm up, maybe play a few notes on the guitar, and get ready for dinner!
Later on, for those who want to experience the magic of the night, we bundle up, snowshoes on our feet, and wander through the starry silence, ears attentive to the hooting of owls or the hooting of a deer.
Day Two
After an invigorating breakfast, we walk from the refuge in absolute silence with the sun rising behind us…. In the direction of Pizzo Scalino (but we do not climb to the summit!). A stop to enjoy peace, nature, silence. We descend gently towards the plain below and the Ca’ Runcasch hut.
A second breakfast, lunch, perhaps brunch, and then we continue on our way to the Zoia refuge and Campo Moro, where the cars are waiting for us.
We return to civilisation, home sweet home, taking with us a genuine and liberating experience, recharged for a new adventure!
