The unique beauty of our land is well summed up in this hike, in just a few hours we pass from the Mediterranean climate of the shores to the Alpine panoramas that open up from our mountains
As we ascend, the vegetation changes incessantly, from terraces with olive trees (and once there were also vegetable gardens and rows of vines here) to chestnutforests and then to mid-mountain vegetation. Along the way we pass through ancient settlements known as ‘monti’, where every little flat terrace was admirably exploited.
Gradually the path becomes less steep, one last climb leads to the admirable little church of San Bernardo , and the view at this point is priceless.
We have lunch in a rustic, typical refuge , where Mrs Pina and company feed us with classic polenta dishes and a bottle of sincere bulk wine, so the descent will be easier. Ready for this steep hike?
