A fun steep climb just a stone’s throw from Lecco, it combines the beauty of the lake with the rocky ruggedness of the dolomite rock (yes, there are not only in Trentino!).
The views are truly worth it. A little higher than the Sentiero del Viandante and a little lower than the Grignetta. You ascend through a magnificent hornbeam forest to look out over the lake on one side and the Grigne amphitheatre on the other. The place is frequented by chamois in all seasons.
On this mountain with its strange and little-known name (Manavello), we often meet the inhabitants of the villages of Abbadia and Mandello below, who find a gym here where they can warm up their legs just outside their homes. The brave then continue along somewhat landslidey paths to the Rosalba refuge and beyond.
The place has become a meeting point for local associations that run a small hut there (open occasionally). We take advantage of the large outdoor tables and benches to have a picnic lunch, enjoying the view, before descending along a loop trail that ends in the pretty hamlet of Rongio
