At the entrance to Val Gerola, in the Orobie Valtellinesi natural park, Monte Olano gives us a high-altitude environment even though we are only 1,718 metres above sea level.
The valley is always cool, so the snow is preserved more than elsewhere. We start out from Rasura and Sacco, the villages of the mythical Homo Selvadego.
Fir woods, splendid, well-maintained huts, with wood neatly stacked.
Halfway up, a short break at the Rifugio della Corte next to the small church, and then again we climb, the snow increases and the magic too.
Coming out of the forest, the path softens until it takes us to the plateau called Monte Olano.
Everything is white around usand almost suddenly the crown of peaks that close this valley appears. The peaks over 2,000 metres of Monte Olano, cima della Rosetta and Monte Colombana. To the east we can also see the Lario, while to the north the severe mass of Monte Disgrazia accompanies us.
What to bring: High boots and warm clothes, water bottle, gloves and hat, rucksack. Poles with wide wheels, Ramponcini gaiters (those who don’t have them can ask us to hire them) – PACKED LUNCH
