the Adda in its autumnal guise, the Visconti castle of Trezzo, the iconic Taccani power station, the splendid workers’ village of Crespi d’Adda.
Our excursion starts in the centre of Trezzo d’Adda. We pass through the gardens of Villa Visconti Crivelli, from here a path takes us to the banks of theAdda. In front of us is the iconic Taccani hydroelectric power station from the late 19th century, decorated in eclectic style. We climb up a few metres and enter the walls of the Visconti castle, where we breathe in the Christmas air among the markets set up inside the castle.(Those who would like a guided tour inside the tower can book it for the afternoon when we return from the excursion).
We descend back to the Adda and walk along the towpath amidst the yellow, red and orange colours of the trees in their autumnal garb. We cross a small bridge over the river to the village of Crespi d’Adda, listed as a Unesco heritage site for the exceptional state of preservation of its historical and architectural heritage. We discover the exceptional history of this almost idyllic village, the housing, the cotton mill, the school, the cinema. We return to Trezzo via the Concesa Sanctuary, and head towards the centre where those who wish can stop for a well-deserved hot chocolate!
