Return: Train to Dorio 16:49, arrival in Bellano 16:59. For those coming by train from Milan, stay on the train until Lecco (17.45), change here (18.01), arrive in Milan at 18.40.
We will walk along the “Viandante”, a panoramic path used over the centuries to connect Milan to Switzerland. The route offers splendid views of Lake Como, passing through picturesque villages, ancient courtyards and ruins, small mountain churches, terraces with vineyards and olive trees. Deserved stops will allow us to contemplate and photograph these breathtaking landscapes.
Programme of the day
From Bellano we climb a flight of steps and visit the Orrido, a deep gorge carved out over the centuries by the Pioverna river. We visit the orrido, the strong waterfalls gushing through narrow gorges. We climb up to the scenic Lezzeno Sanctuary. We descend to the lakeside of Dervio where we have lunch at the Crotto del Cecc, where the cuisine is something unique! From here to the Tower of Orezia, part of an ancient fortress, and then down to the charming medieval village of Corenno Plinio, where we admire the castle built in the 10th century on an ancient rock and the super suggestive village with its 1000 steps carved into the rock. From here we reach the Church of San Giorgio and the Dorio railway station where the train back to Bellano awaits us (16.49 €1.80).
What to bring for the hike
Hiking shoes or boots, water, packed lunch, optional trekking poles, rain and wind protection.
NB: You will find several fountains along the route where you can fill your water bottle.
